A few things we could do to help save the Earth:
*TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER AT NIGHT -- you can save 40 watts per hour. $14 a year. If everybody did this? Do the math
*RECYCLE GLASS -- it reduces related air pollution by 20% and water pollution by 50%. Otherwise it's gunna take about a million years to decompose.
*USE BOTH SIDES OF PAPER -- U.S businesses ALONE throw away 21 million tons of paper every year, like 175 pounds per office worker. And then recycle it, especially newspaper. 63 million newspapers printed each day in the U.S, of which 69% are thrown away. We could save a million trees every week... WEEK.
*SHOWER WITH YOUR PARTNER -- this is my favorite (wink) Save water, save electricity, and create some fun together before you both go to work.
*BY LOCAL-- buy from your local famers markets. I don't think the average Joe thinks of the amount of pollution created to get the food from the farm, to the table. This will support your local economy, reduce the amount of greenhouse gas created when products are flown or trucked in.
* INVEST IN YOUR OWN COFFEE CUP -- This goes out to all my film nuts who live on coffee on set... Invest in a reusable cup, it not only cuts down on waste but will keep your coffee hot for a longer amount of time. Lots of coffee shops will happily fill your own cup, and may even offer you a discount in exchange!
*CHOOSE MATCHES OVER LIGHTERS -- lighters are made out of plastic and filled with butane, both petroleum. These babies add up to 1.5 billion thrown away lighters in landfills each year. Choose matches -- and pick cardboard over wood. So you're lighting with recycled paper over newly cut down trees.
This is just a few things we can do each day to help out Mother Earth. For more information CLICK HERE to read over 50 ways to help. I'm not a true hippie or green thumb, but this is all common sense. Most of these activities are ignored because we're too lazy to think about it. Start small, help out if you can. And listen to the R.E.M song that says it all down below.
You know the aliens are skipping out on an invasion because they know we're not going to be here long. <3
